The good news is that I have my iron supplement and that should take care of the anemia and the thyroid readings. But today I got to hear the magic words "chest deformity," so the pulmonary function test (rescheduled to tomorrow) is still on, and onto the pile goes a doppler echocardiogram looking for heart-squishage problems. wow. life is strange. :) what does this all mean, exactly? and if you've had this your whole life, why now?

Apparently it means your sternum is too close to your spine. The weird thing is that I have always been really self-concious about the way my lower ribs stick out. They look like elbows, and they're asymmetrical. I also have scoliosis (these things all tend to go together), so I thought the ribs were caused by that. I guess nobody noticed in part because they would notice the scoliosis, or because for decades I only saw gynecologists, who tend to be rather territorial.

The heart thing might be due to this being caused by a connective tissue disorder, or might be due to the slight displacement of the heart. I'm pleased that my lack of athletic achievement might have been caused by something other than my intense personal idleness.
