I wouldn't say the shape was horrible IMO.
I think you're on the right track, you just need to trim the edges so they help give the egg shape.
Maybe add foam under the eye, but i'm not sure how large you're making them (the eyes) so you may not have to do that.

It's not bad, but it doesn't really match your art. You're getting a really scary/masculine look with the eyebrow bumps, which arent present in your art. Maybe make them less prominent. More cheek starting directly under the eye. and less on the bottom, you don't want anything under that bottom lip. This is of course based on your artwork

I usually cheat and take a photo of my foamwork and draw on top of it. Usually I trace it, then turn off the photo layer. it helps to see its true form.

thank you for commenting! and yeah that's my biggest issue is trying to get it to translate well. i've done a few updates to the main post with my newest WIP which is getting a liiittle closer- there's some parts of my art i don't think i can translate perfectly (like the chin being the complete bottom of the head n' such) or maybe i'm just not experienced enough for it. if you have any tips with my new updates i would love to hear them!!

try using a shiba-inu sorta fur design for the hair curl! i've heard of other makers using this for curled bangs :3
i think furring/patterning the curl would be otherwise too hard, especially for a first suit

heres a bit of a redline for your face shape, most is to soften the features, and seem less grumpy!
