Cutting fur

I'm looking for some sort of knife/tool to cut fur. I learned the first time fur can't be cut with scissors like other fabrics. I've heard of the X-acto knives, but do they cut fabric well? If I could be linked to a specific one that would be great ( Read more... )

xacto knives cut FUR (real and fake) well if you are cutting from the backing/skin side of the fur, which you should be doing anyway to avoid trimming the pile/hair side, although any very sharp knife, such as a scalpel blade, stitch-cutter blade or fine box cutter will also work. Xactos are just nice because they're especially good for fine work, delicate curves, etc and the blades are easy to replace when they get dull. Xacto knives typically come with at least one (triangular, sharpened on one side only) blade and are easy to find at any store that sells hobby or office supplies and general wares ( ... )

I love my mister twister! I've had it over a year and the blades are still sharp.

It works well for cutting out *FOAM* patterns and large chunks. Not good for detail work. Only downside is the electrical cord is short so get an extention. Not for fur.

You can actually use scissors to cut faux fur, just need to use short-bladed scissors and angle so you only cut the backing. I don't like using razors to cut fur, I don't have much precision control, so I've only ever been using scissors all this time. ^_^ I like spring-loaded scissors like this: https://glupavomomiche.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/artsy-scissors.jpg
