Well if you do plan to use a regular pants pattern for digitigrade you have to take into account the extra space you will need for the padding. Matrices has a tutorial for that :) which I have included below. And you shouldnt need to buy a bigger shirt. But dont buy it super tight. It may look a bit wonky. Also you might want to take into account the length of the shirt. If I were to do a 3/4 suit I would find a shirt that fit the character of my suit. Hope I could help :) and GL to you

Thank you kindly for the advice! I'm not quite sure yet if I'll be adding much padding, if any, but that tutorial is very helpful!

I'm going to say that yes, it is important to wear bulkier clothes with a partial suit, because clothing that fits tightly to bare skin makes the body look disproportional and takes away from the illusion that your body is covered in fur. I think the most awkward-looking are instances where arm-length paw-sleeves leave fur exploding out of tight T-shirt sleeves or where thigh-high leg-sleeves explode out of tight shorts, and where skinny jeans terminate in humongous feetpaws, complete with huge fluffy ankles, that couldn't possibly fit through the garment while it's being put on. (Please note, all the suits linked are quite well-made; I'm not bagging on their makers' craftsmanship or artistic ability, just pointing out that the way they're worn could have been executed more elegantly. If these characters are supposed to look this way, well, that's another matter entirely ( ... )

Oh my goodness that is the most spectacular example of "how did you fit those giant feet through those skinny, skinny pants" I've ever seen. Cute suit, though! Just could have worn baggier pants, or heck, regular shoes instead of stompy feet.

Just so I'm contributing a little bit, I sifted through my pictures of the fursuit parade last Further Confusion for examples of GOOD clothing/suit combos. http://imgur.com/a/90bM8

Perfect examples of what I want to avoid! I see so many suiters who don't recognize this looks awkward.

Thank you for the clothing ideas and input. They really help. :)

My fursuit Sprinkles has a whole closet of outfits. Most I custom fit from larger items. When wearing plain clothes...it depends. if the owner is on the small side and the suit is more fitted with a smaller head tight clothes may be ok. If the suit is big and toony, stick to clothes a size or 2 larger. If you're a medium, try a large or an xl.

I custom fit because I'm a bigger girl and shirts a few sizes up have these huge massive sleeves. Here is something I had to custom fit http://www.furaffinity.net/view/9489149/

My only big pet peeve is people who wear really tight jeans with strange huge flat feet. Tights are sometimes ok. Otherwise try to make sure the pants are baggy enough to look good with the feet. Same with shirt sleeves.
