I do know of a local church that was up for sale... If I remember right, it was surrounded by houses rather closely on a corner lot...

Up this way (Brunswick, MD) there's a coffee shop that operates in a deconsecrated church. There are also a lot of former churches in Baltimore that have been repurposed -- it's one of those "you know you live here when..." things about the city.
