[She nodded, then slid the box towards him. Needless to say, she's been a but surprised this week. This is the second time she's received jewelry for no reason. She's half expecting something bad to happen or something to fall from the sky.]
[Long fingers carefully lifted the necklace from its velvet cushion and Sephiroth rose to his feet to stand behind her, very carefully pulling her hair to one side. Although unfamiliar with the clasp, it took him but a moment to fasten it about her neck, surreptitiously smoothing Tifa's hair back over her shoulder before taking his seat once more.]
[Tifa lowered her neck a little, hand coming up to tuck a few strands of hair behind her ear.
Once the necklace went around her neck, she could feel a bit of heat come to her cheeks. It's just a necklace. A gift from a friend. But it was a thoughtful gift. She moved it to where it was comfortable.]
[It wasn't his place to inquire, but in all actuality, it wasn't his nature to do things like this. Nevertheless, the satisfaction that he had coupled with her enjoyment of such a gesture was worth it.]
Well, to be honest, I wasn't exactly sure whether or not I should.
[Sephiroth cleared his throat and swallowed the last of his lukewarm coffee.]
Believe it or not, that's the first "gift" I've ever given...to a friend.
[The girl nodded, toddling off to fill the orders. Sephiroth lapsed back into his normal stoic silence, having said all he felt was necessary. He wasn't one to make decent small talk, preferring to enjoy the silence.
The waitress wasn't long, thank the gods, and set their beverages on the table with a gentle flourish, along with milk, sugar and cream. Sephiroth, of course, took his black.]
Thanks. [Tifa reached for her cup, adding two sugars and some cream, like she normally did. It's mostly autopilot now, from getting the kids up for school and squeezing a cup of coffee in so she could function.]
How've you been? Feeling a bit better? [Well, now that Angeal was back, she wasn't sure what was going on now.]
What time do you want to meet?

You're welcome. It suits you very well.

Well, you have good taste.

Thank you.
[A rueful chuckle.]
I hope...I hope I haven't embarrassed you, Tifa. Such wasn't my intent.

[Which was the truth. She never expects gifts - she never wants anything, maybe just a quiet life. When she gets gifts, however, she gets a bit shy.]

[Not that was a crime. Clearly Sephiroth needed more friends. This needed to be rectified. She might put Zack on the job.]
You're starting out good. Though gifts don't have to always be expensive.

[Her last comment tickled his mirth and he chuckled.]
I'll have to remember that.

[She paused.] Even the smallest or least expensive gift can carry sentimental value.

[One of the waitresses brought over a fresh cup of coffee, which Sephiroth glanced at Tifa.]
Forgive me. Would you like coffee, or something, perhaps?
Reply
[She's been around too much alcohol today. She needs a stabilizer.]
It sounds really good right now.
