By the time the sequel of Hobbit comes along in all its extended glory, the cinematic Middle-earth would've really taken a generation...
You know, I haven't thought about it that way. That's quite epic.
And just because you mentioned Gollum's Song I had to immediately go find it on YouTube and relisten. Aw it takes me straight back, I've missed my LotR days!
Our adolescent entertainment would've been marked by elves, pirates, wizards, vampires (though perhaps the Cullen generation's a bit young to remember the anticipation for LotR movies)..
...and now, dwarves. Richard Armitage notwithstanding, I'm quite certain that elf-fics are going to make a resurgence on the net before the decade's out though, probably because of the sequel. There will be a new generation who'll discover the Silm and all the wonders of Tolkien, but we'll never be fifteen again...
It strikes me, somewhat terrifyingly, that many of the people who were in school with me when LotR came out would probably be watching the Final Movie with their, admittedly young, children...
Oh my god! That is amazing. Must. Get. Self. To. New. Zeland. O_O
It's bizarre to think it's been 10 years... we didn't have YouTube back then, and LJ was just starting out, and v-logs weren't really done because we didn't have broadband either. I'm so glad that we now have a chance to see this process as it happens, and I'm excited. (Especially having seen Bilbo and the dwarves go through scene blocking. OMFG!) fdsfjkds. This will be epic.
We should all try to meet up in NZ one of these day...;)
This is sure going to revive their tourism industry. They are rebuilding Bag's End and casting Figwit as "Lindir" LOLs.
They started filming LotR twelve years ago though! Middle-earth is the definition of epic! And think of it, if the two Hobbit movies do well enough perhaps there will be Silmarillion movie, or TV series.
Actually, that's more dependent on whether Martin's Fire and Ice series do well...
Yeeees! I would totally be up for that. :D The upside of employment is that I'd be able to afford funding it, too. XD I know I tried to convince my parents to go, but they weren't too keen on plane ticket prices. -_-
Figwit as Lindir - really?? It's funny how the actor's ended up having a cult show, and I guess he's got the musical talent. XD
They started filming LotR twelve years ago though! Ooh, good point! My timelines are fuzzy. Wow, it was more than a decade ago. Jeez. O_O I would be stoked for a Silmarillion TV show as done by people like BBC, HBO or Starz... even if that's a long while yet. But the Hobbit seemed like ages away too, and it's almost here. :D
Can you tell I'm excited?
I hear Saoirse Ronan might be getting a part in the film. Your thoughts on that?
I don't think they're splitting The Hobbit into two movies. I think the other one's prequel to LotR which certainly sounds..worryingly inventive.
Never say never...one of these days. Perhaps Guillermo del Toro will direct a story except Silm stories are actually all very dark, not exactly broad audience material. Even Gondolin has the rather incestuous Maeglin-Idril angle, never mind Turin. The problem/thus our fascination with Silm is that despite Melkor being the bad guy, the arc is about corruption....
I checked Wiki, it's a bit confusing. Apparently they're splitting The Hobbit but also drawing on some material from LotR? I think the story's dependent on the casting.
Oh, tale of Luthien and Beren's a nice love story of good triumphing over evil! Except the Feanorions will be too easily cast as the bad guys DDD: Or it can be epically sensitive to their tragedy....*pines*
It occurs to me that Tolkien subverts the typical "journey" narrative with the Aqualonde and Helcaraxe sequence. It's actually an "epic" in reverse where home is destroyed and they're set out to wander forever in the wilderness, literally and metaphorically until the end of days for the final battle ;_;

Well, we can hope.

And someday, Silm maybe? :p Ok, not likely.

Yeah, it'd probably take one of those 150 episode Asian dramas to do the Silm. But at least then they could cover more topics.
