Eight days. Eight days in a freakin' inhospitable forest being chased by some really freakin' inhospitable (if improbably hot) women with swords. And those women very clearly knew how to use those swords. He'd barely gotten out of that first little scrap with his life. Being unarmed hadn't helped, but he wasn't sure he'd have been able to take ( Read more... )

"This way, my sisters!"

"Artemis lend me speed!"

"Surely he has nowhere left to go!"

Behind him the voices of several Amazons are getting closer.

A spear arcs through the air, splitting the foliage remarkably near to his position.

And there, up in the sky -- neither a bird, nor a plane, nor Superman, in fact --

"Hold, intruder, and seek not to -- "

Oh, yeah. Because yelling 'Hold, intruder!' had worked so well over the past few days. Max dodged the spear (and counted his blessings that they didn't seem to know what metalcrafting was wherever he was) and ducked to the right. He didn't have the energy for a sight shield, certainly not one he could hold long enough to evade his pursuers.

So he picked up the pace. Maybe he could get far enough ahead of them to go to ground? He couldn't go faster than them forever, but some windcrafting would give him a temporary advantage. If he could hold it.

Up in the air, Diana is considering how best to cut off the intruder before he hits the denser areas of the forest. Largely because after that her advantage of flight is going to be eliminated, and she'll have to take after him on foot.

She's willing, but it would be a much swifter result to catch him before that becomes a real consideration.

Which means Wonder Woman picks up speed and darts down toward the ground.

Something clicks in the back of Max's head, and his head snaps to look over his shoulder. Something's coming. Fast.

But he doesn't see any of his pursuers.

He'd stopped looking up after a couple of days when it became clear that none of the women could fly.
