Hey, Boston fan here, and I was careful to NOT vote the complete party line, thank you very much. (And I agree re: pitchers. The Triple-A all-star voting lets you vote for starters and relievers, and MLB should too!)

I voted for players from teams I can't stand when I thought they were the best in their category. Including Yankees. So, you know, there's that.

(But I still want a Tek to win.)

this is to mazily too - i'm just lazy tonight - but you two were totally - dude, you are both so into the sport i know you aren't just voting the party line. hence the reason i meant to say, this is not just directed at the red sox nation, because, seriously. there are very smart people in your city.

i just don't want ANY one team to swipe the entire lineup, you know? especially when there is such talent this year, and (IMHO), most positions aren't a lock like they normally are. (i mean, we all know jeter and papi are a lock, but . . .)

(i have to admit i voted for mauer. i like him. but i still have 23 ballots left to cast, and am thinking about splitting in some categories, and i think veritek deserves at least ONE of my votes.)

Tek would bashfully decline your vote and then go back to praising how awesome his pitchers are, so I think you should vote for him just because he wouldn't even admit he's awesome, too. ;)

But Mauer totally deserves it; that's just the one position where I vote with my heart.

I want to know what they're gonna do about fired-ass Willie Randolph as a coach.

Mauer's awesome. Like tangleofthorns, catcher's the one position where I vote with my heart, stats be damned, even though I totally accept that Mauer deserves it.

As for the other positions, well. It really would be awesome if people would look at something other than the team name (and, while we're at it, how hard would it be for the MLB people to give us some OBP and SLG in their little "compare stats" pop-up?) when doing their voting. There are definitely some crazy exciting players out there, and if they're not from a big market, chances are they're being overlooked because people know, for example, Dustin Pedroia's name but don't recognize Ian Kinsler's (it's entirely possible a coworker and I had a long conversation prefaced with his, "Do you HONESTLY think Pedroia's the best AL 2b?"). Which is sad (as is my self-imposed limit on how many players from the same team I allow myself to vote for).

In conclusion, I'm pretty much agreeing with you here. And the Stanford game just returned from commercial, so I'll close off with that.

How about some home team love! marakara June 19 2008, 03:38:43 UTC
Hey, could we have some Yankees mentioned. I know Jeter and A-Rod are the other two All-Stars but Hideki Matsui is batting close to .340 for most of the season. Johnny Damon has lifted his batting average 100 points in a month. Jason Giambi is crushing the ball. Show some Yankee love.

I do hope that Mike Mussina, who should have 10 wins by the All-Star Game, makes the team. Moose was dissed by Hank Steinbrenner in April and has won every start but two (one loss, one no decision where he gave up 1 run).

i love matsui - he totally gets my vote. i just didn't want to suggest that i wanted to replace the sox players with yanks (though, of course, i would prefer that).

i have personal things with damon and giambi - i'm sure they will show up on at least one of my 25 ballots, but their ditching oakland and then dissing the program (well, johnny more than jason) still stings. i'm a girl with a hard heart - kirk gibson will always be on my most hated list, and that was almost exactly 20 years ago!

i really wish that ellis would make the team. he's playing great, and i fell like 2b is more open than it's been in years - it's been so long since oakland's had someone on the team that isn't a pitcher.

i love moose. and i love mussina. i haven't even been paying that much attention non-yankee baseball. sigh. do you think they'll let willie coach? so sad. also - are there any updates on wang?

Jason spoke very highly of the A's and the A's organization when the Yankees were out there last week. He said he loved playing there. Jason's been good to the organization - one of the coaches had his home ruined by Hurricane Katrina and without telling a soul, Jason cut him a check for $25K to make sure he'd be OK.

Wang is done until mid-September minimum. He's got a Lisfranc sprain and a torn tendon. The Yankees are hoping that he'll be a surprise return in the heart of the playoff race like David Cone was when he had his blood clot problems in the late 1990's. Cone went down in June but was back for the playoffs and World Series wins.

You're an A's fan? Following West Coast teams on the East Coast is a challenge, but for some bizarre reason, the Dodgers are my team.

hahaha. HAHAHAHA. this was a question?

i live and breathe oakland baseball. i have. forever. since birth. since before birth.

my favorite video growing up was "Battle of the Bay: The 1989 World Series" which i can basically quote on command. i can still give the line up for the teams from roughly 1986-1992. i will never forgive kirk gibson and orel hersheiser for 1988. therefore, my hatred for the dodgers is IMMENSE. seriously. it's slowly trickling away, but i harbor deep hate. it's hard to break.

Hee! I hope you can forgive me for my team choice. I don't know how it happened. I think when I started following the sport in 1991, I noticed Hershiser when he pitched against the Braves (they are almost the closest team here, and thanks to TBS we could see regularly), and decided he was hot (now I go WTF about that) and it kind of evolved from there. There's no logical reason for me to be a Dodgers fan AND YET.

I completely understand and respect your hate. I have lots of hate for baseball things myself. Like the DH, and interleague play, and and and

Like the DH, and interleague play, and and and

HAHAH. you are the antithesis of me, you national league fan! i heart the DH, but wish they would just ADD him to the line-up, so pitchers could still bat. i also heart interleague play because it means oakland gets to kick sf's ass every year instead of once a millennium. and the yankees/mets!

however, i am still bitter they created the central division and the freaking WILD CARD. i understand more play-offs, but. DO NOT LIKE. (forget the fact that allowed the a's to go to playoffs 2000-2004. it didn't GO ANYWHERE so it DOESN'T COUNT.)

::is amazingly bitter about things when it comes to baseball::
