Current number of video submissions: 32
The video instructions are finally here!
Sorry to keep you waiting.
As it took a while to put these together, we'll be extending the deadline for video submissions.
NEW DEADLINE FOR VIDEO SUBMISSION: MAY 31st
Please keep these in mind while filming!
GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
Before filming
1. Put your camera on a tripod. If you don't have one / can't get one, make sure to place your camera on an even surface so that your shot is steady.
2. When checking the shot, please make sure that you have enough space under your feet and above your head. Don't forget that you're going to jump for the wave. Ideally, when you're mid-jump, your hands should still stay in the shot.
3. Like it was mentioned earlier, you don't need a penlight to do the dance. Also, as the penlight is meant to be used in the dark, it's your choice, whether or not you're going to use it when you're dancing with the lights on (outdoors). You can opt for a shiny/colourful bracelet or a ribbon on your wrist, or do the dance just with your hand like Arashi did
during their Music Station performance.
4. FOR GROUPS: make sure you have A and B parts assigned to everybody before the dance.
5. FOR GROUPS (especially for large groups): please fix the dancing positions checkerwise, with an even number of dancers in each row. With A and B patterns, you can choose to make it either ABAB, or AABB. Here's how Arashi did it in concert for the bridge part before the first chorus (their pattern is BABAB):
Jun, Sho and Aiba go up; Ohno and Nino go down
And then vice versa: Jun, Sho and Aiba go down while Ohno and Nino go up
Filming
1. Please film your main dance video in one take.
2. As the sound from your video will be replaced, background noises are not a problem.
3. To avoid confusion, please do not insert the interactive moves in the waiting parts as you're filming the entire dance. Just stick to the original choreography and have fun with it. After that, please film the waiting-part interaction as separate videos.
4. After you do the final pose, feel free to wave at the camera or clap, or jump, or anything you like. Like I did at the very end of the video
here.
5. FOR GROUPS: It's up to you to decide whether you're doing the division into A and B for the waiting parts in the first verse when filming the entire dance (see the first A&B timing for the waiting parts below). As the dance in the first verse lasts about 15 seconds for A and then for another 15 seconds for B, you can either dance the same dance all together both times, or have half of the dancers wait, while the other half dances.
WAITING PARTS
There are two main waiting parts we'll be filling in.
As mentioned above, please film these as two separate videos.
FOR GROUPS: Whatever option you choose for the full video, please record the videos for both waiting parts separately.
A:
14:44-15:00 and
15:34-15:55B:
14:32-14:48 and
15:37-15:59GROUPS: You can use either of the timings.
The general idea is to have several frames in the same shot (2-4 frames) with the dancers from different frames interacting with each other.
E.g. the dancers in the left frame look to their left and wave --> the dancers in the right frame look to their right and wave back. Same with the dancers looking up and down.
INDIVIDUAL DANCERS
Block A: direct your moves to YOUR LEFT and DOWN (+ diagonally)
Block B: direct your moves to YOUR RIGHT and UP (+ diagonally)
GROUPS
Any direction: left/right/up/down, diagonally left/right/up/down; or all of them (not at the same time though)
Here is what we're going to fill the waiting parts with:
1. fanservice/interactive gestures:
- "fishing" the dancers in the other frame + "getting fished"
- "shooting" in the style of Shitsuren Chocolatier opening + getting "shot" in the heart
- blowing kisses + "receiving" the kiss on the cheek, kyaaa/swoon
- anything else you come up with (please leave a comment so that we add it to the list)
2. freestyle dance moves, dorky dancing
3. freestyle kawaii posing for the camera (maybe some Arashi signature poses you can think of):
- double peace signs
- blowing kisses
- poking your cheek
- "A no Arashi" pose etc.
4. Arashi dance monomane (any moves from Arashi dances you want to recreate)
5. holding up posters, signs, short messages, uchiwas etc.
Choose as many or as little as you wish but please record at least two different moves in two directions (whatever you're comfortable with). Just play the song, press "REC" and go with the flow!
Note 1: Your waiting videos should be ~15 sec and ~20 sec long as per the timings above. Each of the moves should be at least a couple of seconds long.
Note 2: When you film the video, or decide on the moves, please leave a comment saying which ones you're using.
Note 3: If you have any other interactive moves to add, please leave a comment so that the other dancers can respond to it in their videos.
DANCE IN THE DARK
Dancers with penlights, you'll have a bit more work to do!
Basically, you'll be dancing twice: first with the lights on (outdoors), and then once again in the dark.
MOST IMPORTANTLY: even if you're a group, please film the dance in the dark separately for every person with a penlight. One penlight dance video = one person.
Here are some recommendations on dancing in the dark:
1. Make sure you hold your penlight tight, you wouldn't want to break it.
2. When doing the wave, do it a little bit slower than the one you're doing with the lights on (outdoors). This way the camera will record it better. I wouldn't recommend jumping either, just move your hands all the way up and down.
3. As the dance is pretty fast, cameras with autofocus will be confused and at some points the picture might turn out like this:
This is fine! We'll be using multiple frames in one shot, so if your picture is like the one above, you got it right. I also think the penlight looks even bigger and brighter this way.
4. In the waiting parts, just wave your penlight or do some freestyle rhythmic moves.
5. Use the dance pattern you've been assigned with in the email or in your group (A or B).
BLOOPERS & SCRAPBOOK PHOTOS
The plan is to make the final credits look like a scrapbook, including the names and countries of the participants.
If you want, you can share a picture of yourself (or your group) that you took while filming your video.
We also encourage you to submit NG/bloopers if you had any funny moments during the filming.
It would be great to include them in the credits (or even make an extra little video!).
SUBMITTING YOUR VIDEO
Please send all your video submissions to finanwen(at)gmail(dot)com.
The subject should include "FUNKY video" and also your country, city and registered name.
E.g. FUNKY video: Ukraine, Kiev, Varya

MEGA 5x15
We all know what year it is in the fandom, right?
It's 5x15!
If you want to show your appreciation for this special date, you're most welcome to do it!
You can just write the numbers on a sheet of paper, or make a bigger poster, anything you like.
I think it would be lovely to dedicate this project to 5x15!

Last but not least!
ENJOY! ♥
And we'll see each other later in the project!
