“Yo, English! You gonna sleep all day or what?”

Wesley pried one eye open. He wasn’t wearing his glasses, but the voice and silhouette both said that it was Charles Gunn. “So sorry, Charles. I didn’t realize there was a time limit on sleep for men with gunshot wounds.”

“Yeah, alright. You got me. So, how y’feelin’? They still got you on the good stuff?”

Wesley sighed and tried to sit up, immediately regretting his choice. “Sadly, no. But, I suppose it could be worse. Has, in fact, been worse. How are things at the office? How’s Cordelia faring?”

Gunn gently lifted Wesley into a more upright position, adjusting the pillows to accommodate him. “Not bad. Quiet. It’s not great for business, but we kinda earned some quiet this time around, y’know?” Gunn sat next to the bed.

“Indeed we have. And it’s probably best if nothing too major arises while I’m in here. I’d hate to see you in over your head.”

“Aw, HELL no - you did NOT just say that. I was dusting vamps long befo…”

Wesley groaned, one hand laid gingerly over the site of his wound.

Gunn blanched. “Oh, man - you okay? Need me to fetch a doc?” He spotted a small twitch at the corner of Wesley’s mouth. He recognized that twitch. That was the twitch that showed up during cards whenever Wes had a really good hand and was trying to keep a poker face. “Why you…I don’t beli…Dude, you are lucky you’re already in the hospital, or I’d have to kick 100% of your skinny little ass.”

Wesley grinned and made a show of looking under the covers. “In point of fact, it’s not as skinny as one might think. One might even go so far as to call it perky.”

Gunn stared at his friend. “You are seriously weird. You know that?” He reached down beside him, digging through a duffel on the floor. “Anyway, I figured you might be bored, so I brought your laptop and some movies. Did you know you had a dvd player in this thing? This is tight! Carry along movies - it’s the next big thing, man, I’m tellin’ ya.”

“I hadn’t really thought about it, Charles.” He looked wistfully at the bag on the floor. “I don’t suppose you brought any books?”

“Nah. Movies are better right now.”

Wesley arched an eyebrow. “Yes, because I do so detest reading in all its forms.”

“Yeah, yeah, I know. You’re book guy. But all your books are boring and depressing. You’re not careful, one of those books is gonna send you ‘round the bend; I’m not playin’, Wes. So, take your pick…I brought funny, I brought sci fi, I brought action, and I even brought one of Cordy’s chick flicks. Figured you'd be up on all that sensitive shit, being so in touch with your feminine side and all.” He flashed a wink and a grin at his now scowling friend.

After sending a quick glare Gunn’s way, Wesley started sorting through the dvd’s. “This one is terrific! Do you mind?”

Gunn looked at the cover. He looked at Wesley, eyebrows raised. “You like this? Really?”

“Don’t be silly, Charles. Of course I like it. It’s a classic. Fine piece of film-making, if you ask me.”

Gunn chuckled, shaking his head. “Just full of surprises, English. You’re alright.” He positioned the bed table so that the laptop could sit stably. He popped the dvd into the drive and turned his chair so that he was next to his friend, leaning on the bed. As the movie progressed, the two men relaxed and laughed at what Wesley explained was called “subtext”. When Gunn took Wesley’s hand, it just seemed right. Neither man said a word. Meanwhile, on the computer screen, Danny Glover held his head in his hands and sighed. “Riggs, I’m getting too old for this shit.”
