FUN Convention TV caught up with Mr. Randy Campbell before his educational seminar entitled "Talk To A Professional Coin Grader". Mr. Campbell is Senior Grader for I.C.G. Grading Service. Randy, a former F.U.N. President, has been a professional coin grader since 1989.
In this brief interview we asked Randy the following questions:

1. Why should a collector join FUN?
2. How long have you been on the board?
3. Tell me about your career as a professional grader.

Please watch the Q & A companion video from his seminar Talk To A Professional Coin Grader offered below.

Educational Seminar: Talk To A Professional Coin Grader

Have you ever wanted to ask a professional coin grader a few questions? Well, at Summer FUN this seminar was filled with people who had more than a few questions to ask Mr. Campbell, Senior Grader for ICG Grading Service. Randy, a former F.U.N. President, has been a professional coin grader since 1989. After a few introductory comments, Randy fielded questions from the audience.

Video Quality: As I mentioned this seminar was full. Everyone was front and center for this lecture. Randy walked the floor and addressed many questions from the right side of the room. Therefore, for much of this video Randy is in profile. It was also shot with a tiny Nikon Cool Pix because my Nikon that shoots in HD had a battery malfunction. :(

The audio however, is strong and the accompanying data posted on FUN Forums should be quite helpful just the same.

We hope you find these videos both interesting and educational. Join FUN for more FREE Educational Seminars at the 57th Annual F.U.N. Convention January 5th through the 8th, 2012 at the Orange County Convention Center Here

Helpful Hints From The Seminar

Reasons to Slab Your Coins with One of the Four Major Grading Services
Reasons to Slab Your Coins with One of the Four Major Grading Services

1. Guaranteed Authenticity.

2. Guaranteed Market Grading

3. Easier to Liquidate.

4. Better protection against corrosion, PVC contamination, salty air, environmental damage, album slide marks, etc. - - - Most coin holders and albums used in the 1950’s, 1960’s and the 1970’s actually damaged the coins contained in those holders!

5. Others won’t be able to clean your coins after you die. Future collectors will get to enjoy your coins in the same grade you did!

6. Slabbed coins are easier to inventory (certificate #’s) and easier to claim if coins are stolen.

How to Improve Your Coin Grading Skills Right Now!
How to Improve Your Coin Grading Skills Right Now!

1. Make an appointment with your ophthalmologist or eye care specialist. Have your color vision checked.

2. Use a top quality triplet magnifying glass (7X to 10X).

3. Examine coins under a good lamp!

4. Tilt your coins side-to-side and up-and-down! You may miss hairline patches, repairs and cleaning if you only look at coins “straight-on”!

5. Buy Amos Press’ Making the Grade Grading Guide, edited by Beth Deisher.

6. Buy specialty books on the coins you plan to collect. Wayne Miller’s Morgan and Peace Dollars Textbook is one of my favorites.

7. Study those slabs!
