I really like the direction you took with this!

And for some reason I had the Karate Kid going in my head even though I know that's two different types of martial arts.

Definitely different types of martial arts. :) TKD is very sports/sparring oriented, although there are traditional roots. But I can also see where the original Karate Kid comes to mind, what with the ring and sparring one on one!! Thank you, I'm glad you liked it!
