It was such a little thing; he didn’t know why it bothered him so much.

He didn’t mind when Remus left his things lying all over the floor, nor did he mind when he was late home from work or forgot to order takeout.

He never suspected him of cheating on him, he knew the werewolf would never do that.

But he couldn’t help but feel that his heart wasn’t in the relationship.

James had asked him several times why he felt this way, but all Sirius could do was explain about the tea.

“Tea?” James asked with confusion.

“How does Lily take her tea?” Sirius asked.

“White, no sugar,” James replied immediately.

“Does she know how you take yours?”

“Of course.”

“Remus takes his white with two sugars, three around the full moon.”

“So?”

“How do I take my tea?” Sirius asked.

“Er…black?”

Sirius rolled his eyes.  “See, you don’t know how your mates take their tea, but you know how your girlfriend does.”

“I’m still not getting your point.”

“Remus will be back from work in a minute,” Sirius said.  “Just watch and you’ll see what I mean.”

Remus arrived home about five minutes later and hung up his cloak in the hallway.

“Can you put the kettle on, Remus?” Sirius called through to the hallway.  “James is here too.”

“Sure,” Remus called back.  “Hi, James!”

James called out his own greeting and Remus strolled through to the kitchen.

The kettle didn’t take long to boil and Remus poked his head through the door a moment later.  “How do you want your teas?” he asked.

Sirius raised an eyebrow at James, who nodded in understanding.

“Black, one sugar,” Sirius replied.

“White and one,” James added.

Remus nodded and stepped back into the kitchen, returning a couple minutes later with the drinks.  He passed Sirius his mug and sat down beside him.  “So, what are you two talking about?”

“Tea,” James replied.

Remus rolled his eyes.  “Riveting stuff.”

James shot Sirius a meaningful look, which Remus caught and Sirius ignored.

“What?” Remus asked, looking from one young man to the other with confusion.

“Sirius, tell him,” James ordered.  “If you don’t, I will.”

Sirius glared at James.

“Tell me what?” Remus prompted.

“Nothing,” Sirius insisted.  “Really, James is just being a jerk.”  He kicked him in the shin, causing him to spill some of his tea in the process.

“Sirius wants to know why you don’t know how he takes his tea yet,” James explained, earning himself another kick to the leg.

“It’s stupid, really,” Sirius said, waving his hand to dismiss the subject.

“I’ll say it’s stupid,” Remus muttered.  “I dare anyone to remember how you take your tea, you fussy git.  This one is black with one sugar.  At breakfast this morning you took it white with two sugars.  Yesterday, at that café we met at for lunch you had it white with five.  Before that…I’ll be damned if I can remember, though I know you always take it straight black when you’re pulling an all-nighter.”

“Oh.”  Sirius looked suitably sheepish.

“Anything else bothering you?” Remus asked calmly as he placed his empty mug on the table.

“No,” Sirius replied in a small voice.

“Good,” Remus said as he settled back on the sofa with a contented sigh.  Sirius put his arm around his shoulders and held him close.  Pretty soon the exhausted werewolf was fast asleep and James quietly flooed home, leaving his two friends curled up together on the couch, and three empty mugs on the coffee table.
