[After getting Katara settled, Alfons had gone to speak to the nurses and find some coffee. He'd managed both, but only one thing had proved any kind of useful--he comes back with two cups of bitter institutional coffee, and wordlessly offers one to Edward.]

...She doesn't seem sick. I'm sure it's just something strange about this place.

[Even so, people don't just...pass out like that.]

I hope so.

[Ed takes the cup without seeing what it contains, and he doesn't really notice the smell either. He takes a sip, makes a weird face, and spits out the coffee.]

What's this crap?!

[So melodramatic, Edward.]

It's coffee.

[And Alfons is used to not being able to have it because it's so expensive--he doesn't even notice the fact that it's not good coffee. He just takes a drink of it.]

[Ed looks back down in the cup and sets it on a nearby table. He watches Alfons take a sip and wonders how he can stand something so bitter.]

Have you heard what other people have been saying about it?

I've known of this happening before. Sometimes it lasts an entire week, and then goes away.

It goes away? Completely? No crippling after effects?

I've never seen it happen, but I've picked up similar questions on the Pokegear. If that tells you anything.

[Looks uncomfortable for a moment, before:]

Tell me if anything changes. She's an impressive girl.

[Terse, precise shake of the head.]

No personal acquaintances were ever involved, to my knowledge. I can't really tell you more than that.

This has happened before.

Most of them are sleeping for about a week, and when they wake up they have new memories, as if they had gone back to their worlds for a while.

[Ed wants to say that doesn't make any damned sense, but he's finally getting used to this crazy stuff.]

That's it? [e looks pretty relieved now.]

I thought there was epidemic going around.

[Welcome to Johto, Ed, it only gets worse xDDDD]

It has happened to many people, and all of them have woken up afterward, so there is no need to worry.
