Naming the Mini...

One of the jobs I'm up for consideration for is developing apps for the iPhone. I've never done this so I started checking out the SDK from Apple for the iPhone. Wouldn't you know, the Banana Jr. 2000, my old 2001 Blueberry iMac, wasn't going to cut the mustard. The SDK specifically calls out the need for an Intel based Mac ( Read more... )

And I wish I'd known you needed a Mac; the neighbor has a IMac lappy running off OS9 she wants to sell for like 30 bucks. I'd have hooked you up.

If it's a Mac that's running OS9, then it's an older PowerPC based Mac and not an Intel based Mac. That would leave me in the boat I was in with the Banana Jr. 2000. Thank you for the offer, though.

Trust me, it's a hard choice. In fact, I could also name it R5-D4, the red astromech in A New Hope that has the "bad motivator", but I didn't want to doom the machine to Jawa enabled development. ;)

"Mike" was also the computer from "Moon is a Harsh Mistress" in case that actually helps or hurts the name's chance.

It's CLASSIC Heinlein...just on the edges of when he started to get weird.

What are your other machines called

I like to have a theme with my PC names

EG old old Machine : Machina Demonatrix (crappy demonesque name)
old Machine : Xaphan (Demon who wanted to set fire to heaven)
Current Machine : Beleth (Another demon who did something or other)
Old Server : Abaddon (Further demony goodness)

All of my machines back at Microsoft were named after Bloom County, such as Milo, Opus, Cutter John, and Portney. lunargypsie's machines have been named after elves in the Lord of the Rings. Mine, they've been rather haphazard with names like fluidearth, zoo-dc-01, zoohost, zoomail, and zooweb2. :)
