{The strangest thing happened to Fenris upon waking that morning. His memories of Danarius and a life of slavery, of running, of a pain that never truly went away, did not plague his first thoughts, as they often did after a night of painful, tortured dreams. Instead, those memories in themselves began to feel like dreams, slipping slowly beyond ( Read more... )

[No amount of peace was going to make Genesis a particularly nice person, though he was far less inclined to bite peoples' heads off today and it seemed like far too much effort to dwell on his various issues.

Rather, today he was comfortable in the knowledge that he was a hero and had found himself out and about exploring (sometimes even smiling!) and he'd found the theatres in the East District. But even theatres had breaks between shows and so Genesis was lounging around the abandoned train station because it was quiet and that, too, suited him perfectly today.

He paused and contemplated not answering the voice that came from the locket. He was in a good mood and it would be a shame to spoilt it--but on the other hand, there was likely going to be little that could spoil his mood today, and so... why not?]

Dare I ask if you're talking to anyone in particular?

{Upon hearing the beep from the locket that signalled someone replying to him, Fenris flipped it open and stared at it for a moment. He didn't recognise the voice that came from it, but not everybody here was from the same place.

Normally, he would be annoyed by people asking questions to which the answer were none of their business, but he was feeling strange today, and found himself replying.}

No. I was posing a question to anyone who may be listening.

[Genesis considers this. Dubiously. As far as he's concerned, it's a rather mad answer, but perhaps the other person is in a somewhat whimsical mood as well today.]

Are you in the habit of talking and hoping someone will answer then? [Even his good mood cannot change the fact that that question comes out rather… dry.]

{It was a question that made him think for a moment. He wasn't in the habit of simply speaking and hoping he would get a reply. In fact, he was far more likely to remain silent and watch everyone else ask stupid questions - he knew that, and yet here he was, asking a stupid question. What had changed?}

No. Not normally. {But today something felt... He wasn't sure. Missing, perhaps?}

[Yeah. Have a happy Adder. A very happy Adder. Her failure with the elven fanatic? Carver? Ha ha, what are you talking about. Never happened.]

Feels like the best day. Maybe even the best day ever -- and I'd know; I've had some pretty good days.

{For a moment, something that might have been anger on any other day sparks in him, but then it's gone. Why should he be angry on a day when he felt so good about himself?}

It does... seem that way.

[Adder laughs.]

Well, it's nice to see that I'm not the only one things are going so well for.

It's been a few days since I heard from you. [Not that she really remembers what 'hearing from him' would have entailed. She just remembers the victory of figuring out her MND and spinning her portrait around on Fenris.] Any closer to finding a way out of here?

It's a strange day, today.

{He doesn't remember either. The arguments between them are rather vague in his memory - everything about magic, or at least magic in a negative sense, has begun to be erased from his memory. That includes the conversations - or arguments - that he had with Adder.}

It has indeed.
