American Idol S9 Top 11; Or How I Learned To Start Worrying & Redefine My Definition of 'Top'

Mar 27, 2010 00:29

I have to admit that I was naive and, after last week’s Rolling Stone Week wasn’t as atrocious as I thought it was going to be, I was hopeful that the contestants would have gotten hold of themselves by now and produced a Top 11 to make us sit up and take notice. Obviously, I was wrong. You see, last week I was a little harsh on the contestants but ( Read more... )

I think I've given up on this season. I haven't watched it in a couple of weeks. Too many decent singer were discarded in favor of mediocre ones and while Crystal is very talented she's not enough to keep me invested.

To think I was afraid of becoming obsessed again...

Same here. I very nearly didn't watch this season because I simply don't have the time this year that I did last year. Last year Idol was a refuge from my MA work and writing about it was freeing because I didn't have to reference any sources and I didn't have to justify my opinions. This year I don't need a refuge, and if I do I tend to head to my guitar, and there's only so many times you can write that you're underwhelmed. The only person I could really, honestly get worked up about it Andrew and that's because he keep mutilating my favourite songs so that would be the 'wrong' kind of worked up. Please, if you're going to sing a song that badly don't do it to one I have a massively huge emotional tie to!!! I know I know, he's not to know this, but the other option is just not to suck quite so badly!!

and while Crystal is very talented she's not enough to keep me invested.

This is very much the case. And while I never thought Adam was going to win last year it does feel like ( ... )

Last year's Idol was also my refuge from my MA thesis :) No such luck now. And, oh lord, Andrew. He's Danny Gokey without the commitment. A one trick pony. He'll probably end up in 3rd place.

Crystal deserves to win IMO - I'm not sure she will though. Too many variables at this stage, too many silly theme weeks left. All I know is that she's the only left who doesn't underwhelm me. Even Siobhan - while delightfully quirky - is only OK.

When Katelyn, Alex and Lilly left, I knew it was all down hill from there, with the exception of Siobhan and Crystal.

So very true.

Thing is, both Katelen and Alex had such promise for improvement. I'm not so sure Lilly did as she was/is incredibly sure that she's absolutely fine the way she is but she was still so much better than lots of those that are left. But Alex and Katelyn...they could have gotten legitimately very very good. A bit of fine tuning, a little coaching, and they could both have produced some fantastic performances.

That week has to go down as one of the biggest voting errors in Idol history.

I actually watched this past week, for the first time since Hollywood week.

Wow. There is absolutely no danger of being reinvested in this group.

I like Crystal... and actually I thought Didi was fine. Everyone else? Oy.

No danger at all and that's the sad thing. I keep hoping that someone will all of a sudden do something to make me sit up and take notice but it's just not happening.

I get Siobhan's reasons for doing what she did knowing it would get her votes and therefore on the tour but I think she'd have been safe anyway.

But to be honest, this week was the worst they'd been for some time so hopefully it'll get better from here on out. But I may be glass half fulling it a little with that.

Yeah, I'm not really a half glass full type of person. ;)
