a refugee's guide to the island

May 13, 2011 01:04

Iiii am doing this because I realized INVITING PEOPLE + PEOPLE DON'T KNOW THE SETTING is something I should explain, especially for the summer vacation plot.

The island is a sandbox. You got pulled to the island. Pretty much anything you want to do, you can do. There are obvious technology limits (unless it falls under the Rule of Funny, overpowering your character with suddenly having items they shouldn't have is something you shouldn't do unless necessary or funny! The island does have a history of throwing a bone but the general consensus is you have what you came with.) Characters are also given a laptop within the time of their arrival if they don't already have one. The island has internet, but it's internet with no outside contact. So basically you can contact other people on the island with it or surf the net, but there's a general no-go on looking up other people's canons.

As for the island itself, it is rich with foliage that is bizarre in every way. There is a pizza tree. There is a cake tree. There are berries that change your mood and sometimes your physical appearance. The Ranma 1/2 springs have been here since the beginning, allowing your characters to get cursed with whatever you want. Seasoned islanders will tell you just about everything to warn you, though.

The normal half of the island is beautiful, a perfect (if very, very hot-- remember, it's a tropical island in summer, guys), verdant and lush paradise. For those of you who need rooming, there's the inn. For those of you who are loners, there are many abandoned huts across the island, because people used to tend to build them, be proud of their creation... then get sent home, so those are always a free option. Another thing to note is YES, you can bring your mech/ship/whatever. We don't care. It's just going to be sitting there, though. Try not to crush the forest with your mechs. The forest animals and/or islanders will thank you!

The island is also sentient and messes with people per the usual course for jamjar games with 'curses/events/bizarre mental happenings' and so on. I don't think that part needs explaining, but we will give fair warning for everything the island does and you ALWAYS have the option of not participating, unless it's something like 'the island turns into candy' or 'it starts snowing', which your character might sadly have to acknowledge. The upside is most events do not last long at all or overstay their welcome.

This is just an introduction to those of you who are not familiar with the setting and wish to be more familiar! I'm tired as hell right now so I'll ask the seasoned players if there's anything I missed, which is probably definitely the case, please feel free to comment. I would be very happy if you helped me out and helped me help you help enable some friends to COME PLAY WITH US THIS SUMMER. ♥
