Cake or Death?

I haven’t been on here for a while, due to a delightful combination of computer problems and a bad chest infection (begun when I got stuck waiting for a night bus in a howling gale at 3 am, and realised I am no longer twenty), but here I am now.

Yesterday, I had all three of the god-daughters round for tea at once, for no particular reason. The ( Read more... )

Good luck at growing the hot peppers. I had not heard of that particular pepper before. I like things "snappy" but not "hot" so it takes away the flavor of whatever it's being applied to.

I got a good crop of peppers last year, but they were not hot at all. I'm not mad on hot stuff, but my nephew really likes chillis.

I vaguely recall that to get peppers really hot, it requires growing in hot, dry conditions. But I might have made that up.

I think that's right. We've had a series of bad summers, and although last summer was relatively hot I put the plants out to late in the spring to get much benefit from it. The Dorset Naga ones were bred in England though, so I'm hoping they work a bit better.

10 eggs? That is indeed a chocolate omelette!
But the cake you did make, despite breaking, sounds so good...cherries!

So, you now have a good way to stay in Paris again.

Ahem...reminder...you also have a good way of staying in Seville.

I think it would have been more like a souffle, as it is supposed to puff up in cooking, but then you have to squash it down with a plate. It's a very odd recipe all round and I'm quite interested to see what it would actually turn out like, but that's a hell of a lot of eggs to waste on an experiment!

Your cake sounds delicious, chocolate and cherries, yum!

Good luck with the peppers, I'm not sure what the trick is in getting them hot. Let me know if you are successful!

Lucky you, a place to stay in Paris :)
