Patric Blanc is a French garden designer who has developed a new method for growing vertical gardens up walls; his book "Vertical Gardens" is on the expensive end of my wishlist. OH! I've seen one of the wall gardens in Madrid but I'm not sure if it was one of his. They're gorgeous!

His site mentions that a project has just been completed in Madrid, but there weren't any pictures. I wonder how the irrigation system would stand up to a hot, dry summer.

If they can keep the water running they can keep it alive. Isn't it like drip irrigation or something?

i read an article about him a while ago, i love how his gardens look. there is this random yoga studio in nyc which has something sort of similar, although badly done and probably not actually by him. half the plants are dying.

I imagine that they must be pretty high-maintenance if not put in properly. Some of the articles mention that the one at quai du Branly in Paris had dry areas and some bald patches at the bottom, although that might be because of people touching it.
