Latest blood test results

I had blood taken just a few months ago, but my doctor abruptly left her practice (not her choice) in April, and I went back to my previous doctor. I saw her last week and she said she'd like to take my blood again just to have it, particularly since she doesn't have my medical records yet. The results came today.

Yeah, CHOL should be less than 200 and LDL should be less than 100. However, I'm jealous of your HDL level. It's on the high end! Mine is only 34.

of what you eat the morning of your blood test - did you happen to have eggs or bacon? That'll bump your chol. way up temporarily while you're body's metabolizing breakfast.

If you had you had just oatmeal or grain cereal in the morning, then yeah, it's a bit high. Nothing you can't fix. :) Good health!

Thanks; I hadn't eaten anything for several hours prior to having my blood drawn, and definitely not eggs or bacon. Probably grain cereal if anything.

On the high side. Cut out trans fats, saturated fats, and up the fiber content. Also try to substitute a vegetarian meal or two each day. Avoid crackers, cookies, red meat, ice cream, salad dressing (vinegar & oil is OK), sugar, processed foods.

oo! I second this reccomendation, but watch the cheese in vegetarian meals, especially in restaurants. So many vegetarian meals just substitute meat for an unhealthier dairy product. Tofu isn't exactly low-fat.

Personally, vegan meals have made the biggest difference in my overall health (my chol was high too - I was 50 lbs overweight, I was 23 :( ) Just cutting down on your meat to one meal a day and eating vegan the rest of the time (as long as you eat healthy vegan stuff, not the junk food) will get your arteries clean as a whistle!

one of my favourite cookbooks:

Dr. McDougall's quick and easy cookbook - google McDougall for his website, there's tons of free recipies on there and in his archived newsletters. His recipies are very simple and easy (I like to add tons of spices)

Substituting olive oil for other cooking and dressing oils will help to raise your HDL (good) cholesterol while lowering your LDL (bad) cholesterol. Also, oatmeal for breakfast everyday will help to lower your overall cholesterol levels. And don't forget daily activity! Get off the computer and go for a walk!

Love,
Laura

p.s. I'll be in Boston July 30 - August 5. I hope we'll be able to meet up for a walk around the block.

I don't have your number, you can email it to lwinma@hotmail.com if you wish.

Corn oil bad! Olive oil goooood. Trader Joe's has big inexpensive bottles of olive oil, definitely worth it.
