No you don't have to change other documents. If anything you can get a passport to have more than one male document if you want but that is about all. Also those no match letters where deemed in appropriate and if they are still being sent out there is a hot line to report them to but I guess after the letter is sent reporting it isn't much help.
It was about a year after I'd gotten my BC and DL changed before I went into a SS office to have my gender marker changed there. Due to moving I had a couple different jobs during that time and to my knowledge, none of them ever received a no match letter from SS. This was 2010-2011.
I would have to say no. These things take time and it would be understandable that getting all the info changed wouldn't happen overnight. Some states are EXTREMELY strict about gender changes on BC, some even disallow an actual change and instead you end up with "two BC". (The one with the old gender and the one with the new, usually they are filed together.) SS cards are another pain in the neck but less so than gender marker changes on BCs.
Many trans people just change their driver's licenses minimum and eventually start getting everything else changed. It also depends on other things like tax filing, college degrees, and other things that might be important to you. However, I would advise you to call about these things ahead of time in case you need more than one ID. (You don't have to explain WHY you need to know, just ask so it avoids the awkwardness.)
