I'm thinking that post-op, I wouldn't be thrilled about getting laser hair removal, though I've had neither. Did your surgeon not tell you about this before? Honestly, I'd be pissed if I only found out now, however I was already aware that lots of guys do this so that their new bits don't have additional hair. If this were me, I might re-schedule, as much as that might suck.
The problem with re-scheduling that I'm doing it in the state public hospital and the new date can be year or year-and-half from now, if not more. And I already missed an year in the middle of all surgeries due to last year's doctor's strike.
Oh, I understand. For me personally, it's just something I think I'd prefer rather than having to deal with laser hair removal post-op. Not trying to suggest that it's the best option for you.
Might be worth asking this on the general trans community too- trans women often know a lot more about hair removal. I'm sure there are other hair removal options but I'd be damned if I can remember the names
I just had a forearm phalloplasty a month ago (early June). I did electrolysis - all my surgeon (Prof Monstrey) specified was "pre-operative depilation". I started hair removal in January, did about 15 hours worth all told, and stopped 3 weeks before surgery. All the hair has grown back (grrr), so I'm going to have to go for some more electrolysis on my dick (will probably try to do that sooner rather than later, before the nerve sensation regrows). But I'm hoping that once I get my penis hair zapped now, it will be even less likely to grow back. Already I could/can tell that the regrowth hair that was on my left forearm and is now on my dick is much softer and finer than the hair before electrolysis
