you don't need a GRC to get male on your passport you send them the form filled in your photo signed on the back and name change also a letter from any doctor saying you live as male now and will be from now on!

thats all you need so if you changed your name you can change the gender and name in one :)

ohh and yes it will cost you £77 but only once as you can do both at once!

yup i did mine 2 months ago just as i said and i got my new passport about 2 weeks after, they send your old passport back to you with the corner cut off.

Don't forget if you want your name change back to tick the box where it says i want to pay £3 for my documents sending back

I'm fairly sure they would charge you twice. But you don't need a GRC to change your gender on your passport. I don't have a GRC and mine's was changed before I even started T. They just need a letter from a doctor saying 'Bob is a trans man therefore he will live forever as male'.

That's awesome - thank you!

Do you have any idea how long it would take to process the form?

I changed my name without changing my gender marker, and not only did I have to pay twice, I got a letter back when I changed my name saying that it might cause problems to have a male name and picture and an F on the passport. I only did it in two stages because when I changed my name I had yet to be seen by a GIC. I wouldn't recommend travelling using a passport with your old name, especially if your other ID and cards you may use to buy your tickets are in another name, with airport security as it is. Just do it all at once.

I'm on the waiting list currently to be seen by a GIC (I've gone through GP and psychologist referral stages) - should I then wait to see them before I apply to change my gender marker? I didn't realise that it was necessary.

I wouldn't bother waiting, I don't think it was neccessary, I was being overly cautious. When I did the gender change I used the post office check and send service, and it was back within two weeks.

make sure the letter contains the phrase 'this change is permanent'. it's necessary for them to process it - if it doesnt explicitly state you living as male as permanent thing, they won't change it.

What happens if someone detransitions?

no idea. i assume you can change it back if absolutely necessary. but it needs to say that for it to change at all.

Hmmm. Thanks, anyway. It would just be weird if say in 10 years time I decided to detransition for some unforseeable reason and then couldn't reverse it because I'd included the word 'permanent'.

But thank you.
