Boston therapists?

May 16, 2011 12:45

Hey dudes
I'm looking for recommendations for Boston area therapists. I'm pretty much done with my transition, so I don't need therapy related to that, but I'd still like to see someone with trans experience so they don't attribute all of my problems to that or anything along those lines. Any thoughts?
Thanks!

Fenway is good, of course, but the waitlist is very long (4 weeks until your intake appointment, another 6 to start seeing someone). I just started seeing someone at The Meeting Point in JP, which is really informed about queerness and disability.

Owned by Fenway, but I feel they are more competent and better run.
Although I do have quite a few friends who see therapists at Fenway.
Also hear good things about TMP as mentioned above.

Sidney Borum is fantastic with Therapy, I had all positive experiences there. Right now, I'm currently not in therapy, and though I did only need to attend therapy there to kick-start my transition, it should be known that they do see a wide range of people there, from variety of different circumstances, so it would be uncharacteristic of them to focus on your circumstances surrounding transition or even focus on that at all. They may touch base with it but again, it's not something that they will push- you would need to be the first one to mention it. Otherwise, I can see them being a perfect match for anybody.

If I hadn't started my transition there, they would have been a likely candidate to see for general non-trans related therapy. I believe over the last 2 years since I've been there, they've had some changes in staff, but again, every staff member holds the same values.

Highly recommended by me!!

I saw Dr. Alex Coleman once about my gender issues and really liked him (he's on the Compass list). He was really interested in my life as a whole since I'm not transitioning in a vacuum, so I think he would also be a good candidate as a general therapist with experience in trans issues.

Wanted to add, I only saw him once because I moved across the country for college shortly afterward.
