Forum info update: A Poll

Aug 19, 2006 17:11

Hi, everyone--

When danielray asked all of us what we would do if elected moderator, I wrote that I wanted to start a dynamic update of the community info to address current issues and disagreements about what is and is not proper to post. After seeing recent posts, it's clear to me that our policies about "milestone" posts need to be clarified and ( Read more... )

varanus and i discussed the wording of this proposed policy and this poll before it was posted, and i am commenting here to show my full support for it. i am also here to state that while i will be happy to calmly discuss the outcome i will not engage in threads that are made clearly to incite drama. additionally, several members of the community have emailed me on my personal email address. this is fine, however i would suggest that emails concerning this be directed to the addy on the info page (ftmcomm@gmail.com) since all three of us have access to that address.

fyi, you can change your vote. just click on the poll, and you should have that option.

I approve of it as it is, but offer this for consideration:

I know that my short attention span might have trouble swallowing all that. any way to make the wording more concise?

I hope I can shrink it down--it's annoyingly long even for me. I just wanted everyone to see the full text in writing in public first.

fair enough. nice job pounding all that out. it's clear, it's got good examples, and I think over the long term it will include the quality of posting (and tags) here.

Just out of curiosity - we've got the input of two out of our three mods. Does the strong silent type have anything to say about it? Did he have any input?

(I'm not meaning to imply that you haven't consulted with him - just that he hasn't said anything publicly about this.)

All of my emails have been CC'd to him.

I hadn't heard hide nor hair of him for several days, and then he emailed me three days ago saying that he was with his girlfriend's family and couldn't check the community for fear of being outed to them (he asked us to give him "a brief rundown over email," which seemed impossible really). I haven't heard any communication (in any form) from him since.

This seemed somewhat urgent, given the number of high-comment posts demanding clarification. If I find, either publicly or privately, that he has strong concerns or major objections to this policy, we'll work that out (transparently) when it happens.

Oh yeah, sorry. I worded my comment poorly. It wasn't so much a question to you as a poke out into the ether, hoping to wake the silent mod. Given that he's unavailable, I guess that won't happen. Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate the work you and Reed are doing to resolve this.

Heh, no problem. I'd like to hear from him as well.
