explanation for the toothpick miracle?

 Somebody on another board came up with a plausible explanation!

Water. The bottom of the toothpick box got wet. Somebody was playing around with it and stuck the box onto the wall. If everything was just perfect it would stick as the soft and wet box bottom would mold itself to the slightly raised surface of the plaster wall. When it dried, it

Perhaps there was a pin through the side of the box; when you pulled the box off the wall, the pin fell in among the toothpicks.

I left a similar explanation as a comment to the earlier post before I saw this ... applied scientific theory would now require the attempt to duplicate the result.
