"Why are you following me around? Haven't you got any pride? Are you that obsessed with me?"
It didn't really hurt at all when it had been said to her, but Sujini always had to have a thick skin growing up. And now she's well aware why she was always treated differently, handled with care. Even if she didn't realise it at the time.
But when she sees the slightest movement, Chuh-Ro's head turning away from her just a little, she realises not everyone has had to become the same as her. Some people still retain feelings that can be injured by others.
It's possibly the first time she's had to rethink her motto, 'act first, think later', except now she's just thinking as she acts. Racing at speed to undo some damage.
"Someone said those words to me once," she says. Whether she realises it or not, Chuh-Ro knows who she means. When she's around him for some reason she often speaks about the King. Her worries, her angers of the forces that surround him, trying to manipulate him. In fact, he's possibly the only thing they've ever talked about together.
"I feel strangely anxious," Chuh-Ro says, "I feel like he's calling me."
"Who?" Sujini asks, her face turned away and her hands busy so as not to betray herself. He knows, and she knows.
"I feel like I have to be beside him," Chuh-Ro says, and it twists in her stomach, the way he can say something in such a way that it simply must be true. The way he accepts his fate. But then, it isn't the same as hers. He has been through his own time of madness, and the King rescued him from it. Sujini's may only just be beginning, and she is the only one who can save herself.
"He's not far away," Chuh-Ro insists, "I must go to him. I feel quite uneasy."
"The King?" She asks, unable to bite her tongue.
"Let's go." That she can't do. Sujini stalls.
"Uneasy? Why?"
"I told him I would take you to him. I want to keep my promise." Chuh-Ro never answers a question if he does not wish to, or if he deems it unecessary. He sees so much without trying, knows people just by watching them for a little while, and it follows that he knows how much, or how little, to say to gain most people's understanding. Between himself and the King, there is already that kind of bond, Sujini knows.
That makes it only the slightest bit easier to let go of them both.
"Hey, Overlord," she says. No-one ever speaks his name to him, afraid of the intimacy perhaps. It hasn't seemed to bother him so far, and if she's going to walk away, best not to get close. "Can I ask you a favour?"
"Tell me."
"I know you've worked hard, to find me, and save me," Sujini says, "that's why I feel bad about this favour." She has to meet his eyes to ask this of him, she suddenly realises. She has to look him in the eye and use whatever courage she has left, because whatever it is, it isn't enough to kill herself in case a madness overcomes her. Distance and time will be enough. It simply has to be. "Tell the King this... Tell him you couldn't find me. Tell him I'm somewhere you can't find me."
He doesn't agree to it, but distracts her with questions instead. This is so that later on, when he tells the King the truth, or more likely lets him guess, he will not be going back on his word.
