It would really bore me just to colour them as well. I use the covers to practice layering different shades of colour over each other (it's actually good to have one fish to test one colour scheme and the other fish for other colour schemes). But the really interesting thing is to practice colouring thnigs in a realistic way (with textures etc. so that metallic things really look metallic, shells really look like shells). That's more interesting to use in Daria Song's books, though.
I actually find it easier to test on other people's drawings whenever I don't want to spoil a drawing I did by colouring it. XD Afterwards, you can use your knowledge for your own drawing. But I can't imagine sitting for hours colouring things for the sake for colouring them either. It gives me a stiff neck instead of calming me. (I only do it while plotting fics).
