A question about the suffixes in Detective Conan

Jul 31, 2013 21:15

Reading the latest DC files, I just realized that Ran calls Sonoko "Sonoko" without suffix. But I still don't know how Shinichi addresses Sonoko. Can anyone tell me? I'm editing and writing "Encounter in Venice" at the moment.

In the manga scanlations which include honorifics, Ran calls Sonoko "Sonoko" and Makoto "Kyogoku-san". I wonder how Shinichi calls her, though. I've chosen "Suzuki" for Encounter out of convenience.

He calls her "Sonoko" without the suffix, the same way as Kudo calls Kazuha "Kazuha". I remember I heard it in the Desperate Revival arc after she set Ran up with Araide. Sure he is kind of upset but Kudo doesn't strike me as the suffix type except to people older than him.

I remember that file as well (when he thought of her telling him that the people onstage had to kiss). But then it happened in his head, wasn't it? Hence I wasn't sure whether he actually calls her Sonoko or whether he only thinks of her as "Sonoko." Your theory that Kudo is not a suffix-person makes sense, though. :)
