On the one hand, unexpected car is unexpected, and that can be... interesting.
On the other, VW Golfs/Cabrios/Rabbits are some of the most fun little cars to drive. Maintenance, not so much, but as long as the car has been kept up, up to this point, it should do fine for many years yet before having a major problem. I think the only advice I can give you is "check the engine clips" -- VW has a bad habit of putting plastic engine clips/ties on their cars, which will fail, in favor of the more expensive metal ones. Nothing like losing a hose clamp on the highway...
