Wait...the lantern and the rings are extraterrestrial in origin, right? So if Walky came across them, he'd be able to control them himself! Maybe duplicate the rings, mass-produce lanterns--generate enough power to build an interstellar fleet!

Not quite. The rings are generated from the central power battery. The more of them there are, the weaker each one is.
