Tet was a stunning defeat for the NVA and the Cong. They failed to meet their objectives and the forces were utterly, almost completely wiped out. IIRC the NVA was just about gone.
Now, mind, the American press did constantly tell everyone that American and S. Viet Nam forces were smashed, and yes, we were caught off-guard and had losses, but in the context of the entire offensive, we won that one.
And then we gave up. Took a couple of years but we managed to completely snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
And that's my point! We are in the process now of failing to support our forces in the field, the public has no idea how the war is going in military terms, and defeat looks like a self-fulfilling prophecy in spite of any reality on the battlefield.
My apologies then. I guess my concern was too many people just glancing at this post would kneejerk the 'action line' pushed all these years by the Progressives thru their agents in media and academia. Tell a big enough lie long enough and loud enough and it becomes the operational truth blah blah. :)
Actually, I don't blame the Progressives, although they are part of the problem. I blame the usual across-the-board ignorance infesting American society. You don't need to tell a lie if nobody is even curious enough to look and listen for truth.
