And there's SO MANY issues with the AICN thing. It seems as if while talking Shogun Warriors the memory is of Jim TErry's Force Five.
I mean, WHAT 'backstory' for Shogun Warriors? The Marvel Comic? OK, well, I suspect Disney would have a say in that now, hm?
Mattel has been completely mum on Shogun Warriors.
As to why Gaiking? He's a Toei robot that is fairly iconic in Italy (again, thanks to Force Five) yet free of any complications involving Dynamic Pro. Because otherwise you want an international Giant Robot movie you gotta go with Grendizer.
More than anything else this sounds a whole lot like a guy who thought the CG Astro Boy was going to hit big and with Avatar in his resume this was the time to try and talk Japan into giving him moneys.
"It's not worth it if you can't make a movie with explosions and hot chicks." Everyone's dissing Mike Bay. (And yes, he second Transformers movie was a bit too "slapped-together-and-wearing-flipflops"-esque for me.) But this guy's making MONEY (off of the "gamers").
Can a good movie about mechs be made and then bring in money. Yes. Can said movie be based on something originally from Japan. Yes. Can it be done without everyone else "pissing all over it?" I doubt it.

I am a cynical, sad person. I guess.

The last good franchises that had mecha were Star Wars, Exo-Squad, and Transformers. \_(^_^)_/
