I've Gone To Hernando To See My Old Home
My aim was to come here partly to get stuff from Mike Birchfield, but another reason was to try to "fall out of love" with Florida. They say one you've got sand in your shoes, you can't love any place else.
The people who bought Peachtree from us...they repainted the house...instead of garish mustard yellow, it's a more sedate shade of white. The fences have all been replaced, with sturdier dark brown horse corrals. They took down the TV antenna and put up two satellite dishes. The wisteria wall is gone. The interior was probably renovated too, but I didn't even think of parking my car and getting out.
I miss the place, but it's gone--the Peachtree I knew. The only way I'll have another Peachtree is if I built it myself.
I visited the graves of my grandmother, step-grandfather and my father's older sister. I visited a very good friend and we caught up and exchanged Christmas gifts. I shopped for Christmas gifts for my family. I'll see other friends tomorrow.
