Um, what exactly did it croak from? VW TDI's tend to be relatively indestructible. Except for the accessory parts that VW charges waaaaay to much for.

A filter in the Turbo's ducts went unserviced for years and the crud (according to the reports I received) played havoc with all sorts of stuff and (my guess) caused corrosion in places that were economically impossible to replace/repair. I don't have all the information.
