One of the local TV stations was showing Rambo III this afternoon and I was thinking first that old saw about my nation's enemy's enemies ( Read more... )

I saw a skit from a British TV show once (although, heaven help me, I don't remember the name, and I was in no position to find out at the time) that showed two Nazi soldiers in dirty uniforms milling about on a wall. They'd obviously been at their post for some time, and both looked tired and bored and hungry. It went something similar to this:

"Franz," says the first one, "do you think this is right?"

"Huhn?" Says Franz.

"I mean, what we're doing. Invading other countries. Isn't that wrong?"

"No. Of course not. We're simply expanding our empire. It's what empires do."

"But," continues the first one, "we're killing people. Lots of people. Like those blokes down there." There's scattered gunfire, and some screaming, "Doesn't that make us the bad guys?"

"..."

"..."

"Bloody hell, we are the bad guys."

Look into our country's charitable contributions... both the US government and private individuals.

We sent more aid to the tsunami victims, for instance, than anyone else. I don't think our wealthy Saudi "allies" contributed a dime

Hi there, fellow Roman. It DOES suck, doesn't it?

However; reality has a funny way of telling us that we need to "clean the back of our necks" and "step our game up."

One idiot president who stole the election... Twice... And it was all downhill. The climb back to the top is always the hardest. But the continued fight forward is all we have left.

And another thing that still makes as Americans great is that we can acknowledge our mistakes. Even though our government doesn't.
