I Googled myself and saw that somehow there is a "Stephen Bierce" registered with a website all the way in Mongolia. Been there since last year. I don't remember signing up for it...or for yet another Yahoo! identity I found that may or may not be attributed to me

I thought it was weird when you said this about your userpic and wondered if you were kidding but I JUST noticed one of mine did the same. I tried to load it again while leaving the religious one that it switched to alone but no matter what I named the PROPER icon, the deviant changed (it was footprints in sand, from that story where God carries us, I actually like that but this was weird and unwanted) it's title with the image remaining. i finally deleted it and reloaded mine with a secondary name. It worked. I changed it back to the original name since that's what links it across LJ and in my journal where I'd WANT the icon and so far it's as it should be (the Marilyn Manson one with "androgynous" on it).

I think LJ's own database for the avatars was somehow compromised. Or that the number of icons in their system overwhelmed the system's ability to handle them. *shrug*
