On Saturday I played the demo version of the new Team Yankee permutation of Flames of War and again I want to build an army in the worst way.

Years ago I could have gotten diecast tanks in the right size/scale for the game, but now they seem to be scarce, which means I'll probably troll every thrift store I can find in five or six counties for the ( Read more... )

Whatever happened to Rocco Minitanks? I recall they were in HO scale and they used to be dirt cheap. I assume that if they do still exist they've become stupid expensive...

I used to love those things. I'd buy up new ones every chance I got, it was always impressive how many tiny moving parts, even opening hatches, they had. I think the last one I got was a M60 A1E2.

Belated Happy Birthday, BTW. :)

Roco is still around and I've noticed that Euro Train carries an okay selection of them. I'll probably go with them if I can't find what I want locally.

hey, what the heck, I did a quick look at Amazon for minitanks and someone is looking to get like $60 + for ONE TANK?!

Tell me they haven't gotten that insane in pricing! I think the most I ever spent (back in the stone age of like 1967 or thereabouts) was $5 USD and that was for a fairly large tank transporter.

They were common! Many drug stores had a display of them, not to mention any place that carried HO trains. I'm pretty sure it was a 'vendor serviced' product sold on de facto consignment.

Ah, the days of local department and variety stores and the myriad of jobbers and supply houses. *sigh*

Retail is definitely a dying art. I'd rather have a nation of shopkeepers than 1% shopkeeping for everybody.
