Why, hello there.

I've recently rediscovered Star Control 2 and was thrilled to find that I enjoy it even more now than I did as a child (except perhaps for the fact that I still panic and fling my ship into the planet at the start of every battle. Some things never change.) In between bouts of killing off my crew, I ponder the alien races in general and the VUX in ( Read more... )

Welcome! :D

OH OH MY GOD :D I'm so going to go read all that later when it's not hideously late at night. But YES they definitely seem amphibious (in the sense of "lives both in water and on land" and not in a strict taxonomical sense, if indeed there is one (since I'm too lazy and tired to go look it up)).

♥ ZEEEEEEEEEEX That gets a +fav! :D

Yeah, turning them into weird tentacled froggies didn't seem right; more like they can easily switch between a marine environment and a terrestrial one...

Right! :D That was just what I meant.

Also, somewhere in the depths of one of the UQM message boards is a thread that goes off on a weird tangent about what a dinosaur is and whether it's appropriate to use the word to mean "big prehistoric lizard"/elitist to use it in the strict sense that biologists use, and eventually devolves into flaming and a macro. (I think the thread was originally about the Precursors. :P )

Oh those wacky Precursors, always stirring up debate! Though I'm not sure why it was necessary to start a flamefest over the definition of 'dinosaur'...?

Hee! I like your full length costume design. The increasing size of the pearls is really stylish. Anyway, Welcome!

Thanks! So few of the races even wear clothes that it was pretty neat to make up half an outfit. :D

Gotta be hardcore about something! As long as it sounds good, that's good enough for me.

I didn't know ZEX was so popular. Most of what I saw on the major forums was various yehat and Commander Talana... Guess I wasn't looking in the right place, no? :)

Biology! The science of kings! Oh for the days before poorly-written preteen sitcoms.

A biology nut that also likes the VUX?! Holy crap, just what I needed!

Er...*ahem* Yes. Welcome, newcomer!

Ah, it seems like yet another person has pegged the VUX as a species that can survive both land and water. The game itself certainly backs all of us up. zarla here made a little entry showing what comes up when you scan the VUX homeworld if you let the Kohr-Ah win. They apparently have cities underwater.

Anyway, it's nice to know that some of my own guesses about their physiology (regeneration, double lenses, protective cuticule) are shared and backed up by someone who knows what they're doing. I may be a fan of worldbuilding and such, but I'm always at a bit of a loss in the biological aspect ( ... )

WOW so many screencaps... Ha! Seems like all their biggest cities are submerged. Cool beans.

Sounds almost like encycolpeadia entries! I'd love to proof your bio/evo theories (and read the rest of it because hey neato culture and language and such). I think common sense should take care of most of it, since the aliens are all more or less analogous to real animals. :)

Thanks! I went through about four designs before settling on that one. For some reason I almost drew him bare-legged, but what with how Victorian they seem, only a hoVUX would show that much skin...

A starmap design would be awesome. They'd totally do it, too.
