It's not a flaw. Go to the Encom International web site: http://encominternational.com/past.htm

Cursor over 1983 in the timeline. It explains that Encom, under the leadership of Flynn, designed the game TRON. It ended up outselling Space Paranoids. All of this is part of the set up for the new film.
