Summary: When fate starts to do its magic, we can't really do anything about it right? Whether we like it or not, we have no choice but to go with the flow. Fate is something no one can go against with, even the gods of Greece has no control over fate; they're even being controlled by fate. Us, humans, we're controlled by fate. For these two particular person, fate starts to do its romantic magic. How if they're not exactly the opposite but not exactly the same?
Leadership, dominant personality, perfectionism, the motivation, determination and the power to boss around everyone under her, those were the characteristics of Yoshikawa Yui. She's a third year senior high student. She's a very competitive person and hates losing, especially in her forte, cooking. But the thing was, she's only second in their class. The main cause, the natural genius who never put any effort on anything he's done. A loner, antisocial and never trusted anyone, Inoo Kei. He would always prefer to work alone in any projects. Even when they have group projects, Kei would always ask their teacher to let him work alone. Despite being alone in everything, his works were always better than everyone else and par with Yui's group. The only thing that he's second to her was cooking, though he's fairly skillful himself, Yui was just better in cooking. She doesn't hide her pride in cooking.
The only thing that they probably have in common was, they're both friendless and they don't mind staying that way. Yui though has lots of people she hang out with but she doesn't consider any of them as her true friends. Since she basically thought that everyone's using her to get better grades. While Kei was definitely alone, he never tried to approach anyone. For him, everyone will just betray him.
It's their cooking class, they always kinda have this cooking contest once in a while. This was how they're ranked in their cooking class. As usual, for the final round, it was Kei VS Yui and Yui won.
"Ha! How's that? I beat the great Inoo Kei again," Yui pridefully said.
Kei could just shrug. He's already used to Yui's arrogance in cooking. He's not as competitive at her and he doesn't quite understand why she has to always beat him in everything. He doesn't even give his everything in anything that he does. Though sometimes in cooking, he would try hard just to try and make Yui shut up but he admitted to himself that he couldn't beat her.

On Yui's way home, she just finished buying some cookbooks from the bookstore nearby. You could say that her room would already look like a library from all the cookbooks that she bought. She's listening songs from her iPod when all of a sudden she was pulled by some gangsters to an alley and cornered her there.
"What do you want?!" she held her bag close to her body in a protective way.
"Well... we would want to hurt your beautiful hands... I heard a cook's hand is their most treasured possession," one of the gangsters said.
"N-no... why would you do that?! How did you know that..."
The gangsters laughed, and one of them said, "Well that's simple, we were paid to do this,"
The guys started to walk closely to her as they take out their blades from their pocket. Yui walked back until she could feel the wall on her back. She curled herself down, closer her eyes as tears started to run down and prayed that someone will see. When all of a sudden, she could here some fighting. Her eyes were blurry because of her tears, but she could see that there's only one guy fighting all of them and kicking their asses of. When the group of gangsters saw that they're already defeated, they ran away.
"Are you okay?" her savior asked her and reached his hand to her.
Yui nodded. She held the guy's soft and smooth hand as he helped her up.
"Th-thank you so much..." Yui wiped her eyes to get a clearer vision of the guy but to her dismay, it was none other than Inoo Kei, "you..."
"Yes it's me... I've been following you and thank goodness I did, or else you'll already have your fingers chopped off,"
"Look! I'm grateful for you saving me! But that's it!" Yui rushed off, her pride was hurt Kei saw her at her worst. Kei saw her crying. He saw her weak. It was something she'd wanted him to see.
Kei on the otherhand completely knew what she was thinking. Kei could see right through her. Actually, Kei could see right through everyone around him. He just smiled and quietly followed her to make sure that she'll arrive home safely. When he saw her enter her house, he quickly left and went back to his own house.

Kei and Yui were both summoned by their homeroom teacher at the faculty room. It's been a week since Kei saved Yui from the group of gangster and she avoided him even more. Kei would just quietly observe her from a far as if trying to make sure no one will hurt her. Yui never noticed anyway.
"So, being the top students of the class.. I want you two to lead your class for this coming school festival. It's a month from now and I'll be expecting something big from the two of you," their homeroom teacher said.
"But sensei, you know I don't like to work with other people," Kei objected.
Their homeroom teacher smiled at him, "Inoo-kun, no man is an island. You need to work with them, especially with Yoshikawa-san. I appointed you two because Inoo-kun, you have the brains and ideas for these kind of things and Yoshikawa-san has the leadership skills for this event... do you two understand why you have to work together? As one?"
"Hai.." the two students said in unison.
"Remember, you're already in your third year, make this the best,"
The two bowed and went back to their classroom. Yui walked ahead and stood in front of the class, Kei just behind her.
"Okay people, we need your attention," Yui quickly caught everyone's attention, but she could see the confused look on their classmates' faces to why she and Kei were together, "our homeroom teacher just called us and she wants us to think of something for the upcoming festival next month... Inoo and I will be your leaders as she appointed a while ago. Any ideas?"
"Something that will be the most profitable and will attract lots of attention will be the best," Kei suggested.
Everyone in their class respected thes two so anything they'll say will be highly considered. Their classmate Daiki put up his hand and said, "How about a cafe? It's popular at all ages and it's a sure profitable business in every festival,"
As if looking for an approval to the appointed "brain" of the project, Yui looked at Kei and earned a nod, "Yeah, that'll be good, a cafe,"
Kei wrote cafe on the blackboard as Yui asked for more ideas but none of them gave anything else because they saw how Kei agreed with it, and for them, anything that Kei would like will be the best, based on how he did all past project.
"I guess cafe it would be then," Yui finalized, "but what kind of cafe?"
"We'll just leave it to the two of you," Daiki said and everyone seemed to agree, "we know you two will come up with the best ideas,"
"Okay then.. I guess it's up to us," Kei told Yui.
The next three days were spent in coming up with ideas. Lots of arguing, conflicts and agreeing occured.
"No no! Maid cafe is mainstream, we can't do that. We need something unique," Kei spoke. It's already after school and the two of them were left alone.
"Then what?! It's been three days and we can't still come up of something!"
"Well, we were able to assign who's gonna manage the kitchen, you, and who's gonna manage the cooking, me. We were done assigning which to who... the menu..."
"Ugh just shut up you weird, creepy stalker!" Yui snapped. She's at her limit. Kei would always contradict what she said and it's pissing her off.
Kei sighed and closed his notebook. He could see tears on Yui's eyes again. He knew she's remembering what happened that night, "Look.. I have a reason why I've been following you,"
"What?! Just spit it out!" Yui demanded, her eyes showed that she desperately needed an answer.
Normally, Kei would quickly come up of a lie or something to get out of the situation. But he knew this wasn't the time to lie. He needed to tell her the truth, "Some girls from another section hired those people to hurt you... I was doing my cleaning duties and was about to go home when I heard them plotting something evil about you. So I just have to make sure you'll be safe and followed you.. then that day came and somebody attacked you,"
"Eh?" Yui couldn't believe what she was hearing; Kei stalked her to save her? Now she's feeling more guilty and in debt to Kei. She looked down and just said, "Thank you..."
"You're welcome, now let's calm down and clear our heads and think of ideas.."
Yui nodded and all of sudden, an idea came into her, "How about a Romeo and Juliet themed cafe?"
"That will be great! Let's do that!" Kei wrote down the theme, "So all server will have to wear costumes, should we have someone sew it for us and pay or we'll sew the costumes ourselves?"
"Hm... I guess we'll pay for someone to sew. Let's assign Daiki to look for a tailor okay?"
"Yeah," Kei wrote Daiki's task.
The next day, Yui and Kei announced what they came up with and everyone seemed to like it. Everyone's spirits were high and think that this festival wll be their best. They were right to trust on their leaders, they can come up with the best ideas when they work together.

School Festival. The big day finally came. Yui and Kei arrived at school early to make sure everything's right. Kei was already wearing his Romeo costume. His costume was different than the other male servers who will be wearing Romeo clothes to show that he's the manager. The kitchen staff won't be wearing costumes. Their classroom was divided into two sections. A third of it was for the kitchen. They used paper machets as divider that looked like a wall of a castle. Their tables were elegantly designed like how tables were back in Shakespeare's time. Decorations were also Romeo and Juliet related.
"Seems like everything's perfect," Yui sighed in relief, "I'll start cooking,"
"Yep," Kei nodded and Yui went inside the kitchen.
Kei started putting menu on the tables. Later on, their classmates arrived all excited for today. Those assigned to the kitchen quickly went to the kitchen to help Yui and those assigned for doing the service fixed themselves up and prepare.
When the time hit 8 o'clock, guests started arriving. Everyone was busy serving their costumers. The kitchen was well organized, thanks to Yui and Kei was managing the service side very well. The cafe was a hit. Everyone around school was talking about their cafe how it was well managed and the foods were so good. It was a big success.
"For today's success! KAMPAI!" Daiki called for a cheers and everyone drank their beverages.
One by one, their classmates left until all who's left were Yui and Kei to compute their sales and report to their teacher. They looked at the time; it was already 9 in the evening.
"Let's call it a day, we're both tired," Kei told Yui right after they submitted their sales report to their homeroom teacher.
"Yeah,"
As they were walking home, a certain light caught their attentions. Light from the fireworks. Their school festival was always on the same days as their town's festival so there's always attractions everywhere. They stopped in front of a park just near their school.
Yui smiled while watching the fireworks but it faded away when she saw that Kei was crying while watching the fireworks, "Inoo, what's wrong?"
"Nothing, I just remembered my mom, it's her death anniversary today and... I used to watch fireworks with her and dad when I was small,"
The fireworks ended with silence from the two of them. It was the first time for Yui to see this side of Kei. The silence was broken when Kei chuckled, "You showed your weakness to me, now I'm showing you mine. I guess we're even now,"
"No not yet... I haven't showed you support yet," Yui looked at him with determined eyes, "tomorrow, Saturday, meet me at Tochomae station, 7am sharp,"
"Eh?"
"Just do it!" then Yui quickly left, leaving Kei in confusion.

The next day, Kei was walking to the station where he'll meet Yui when he passed by a flower shop. He saw a beautiful basket of flowers and approached it.
"You like it?" the shop keeper asked.
"Uhm.. yeah, what is it?"
"It's an Azalea, it is a symbol of feminity and softness. It is something that's usually given to a loved one," the shop keeper explained, "for your girlfriend?"
"Eh? No no... not a girlfriend, but maybe a girl that I admire and care about?"
"It also means 'take care of yourself, for me' so it's perfect isn't it?" the shop keeper smiled at him.
"I see," Kei smiled, "I'll take this then,"
Kei paid for the basket and quickly left the shop when he realized there's only ten minutes left before 7am. He never wanted to make someone wait for him, for he himself hated waiting. When he arrived at the station, Yui was already there.
"Took you long enough," Yui complained.
"Sorry, I saw this in a flower shop while walking here and I thought maybe I want to give it to you... I don't know why but I just thought of it.. maybe let's say as a reward for your hard work yesterday?" Kei handed the small basket of Azalea to Yui.
"An... Azalea? I like this flower,"
"Really? Then that's great. So uhm.. what are we doing here?" Kei asked.
Yui smiled and showed Kei two tickets for the shinkansen, "We're going to Gifu,"
"GIFU?!"
"Yep, come on, it's a long trip," Yui pulled Kei into the train and looked for a seat for them.
More than three hours passed and they finally arrived at Kani, Gifu. Yui dragged Kei to the commemorative park where the flower festival takes place once a year. Kei was so amused with what he saw. They were surrounded by beautiful and different types of flowers. The air was so fragrant and fresh that it felt so relaxing.
"What do you think?" Yui excitedly asked.
"It's... it's beautiful,"
"I always come here once a year... I love seeing the flowers... they're just so perfect right? Makes me feel better,"
"Yui thank you," Kei suddenly pulled her into a tight embrace. Yui didn't pull away. She knew or she felt that Kei might just need that.
"I hope it makes you feel better as well," Yui said.
"Yeah... thanks. I feel like owing you to tell about my past right now.. Why I never tried to make any friends," Kei chuckled and pulled back.
"I won't lie to you.. I'd want to know,"
The two looked for a place to sit while Kei was telling Yui his past. Kei first started with his sick dad working over time even though he's really weak. They used to be a part of a middle class family, just the three of them, happy. Then one of their friends needed money and borrowed from them. His mom was already dead that time. His dad being very nice, he lended their friend a big amount of money hoping that one day it'll be returned. But to their disappointment, that guy they trusted was a part of a syndicate and they were swindled. Since then, Kei dediced not to trust anyone for people will just end up betraying them. Next thing he said was how he was at fault for his mother's death and that he never visited her grave because he can never make himself face her. They attended the festival when he was nine, when some drunk guy suddenly approached him to loot money from him. The next thing he knew, his mom rushed to him and one of the guys stabbed her and they ran away. He blamed himself that if only he never stayed away from his mom that night, she be still alive.
"Inoo... it's not your fault, it's those guys! They're stupid and you know what, I bet your mom never blamed you and I bet she'll be very happy if you go visit her.." Yui comforted her new friend.
"But..."
"You should go visit her," she smiled at him, "and I insist or else I'll tell everyone you're stalking me,"
For the first time, Kei smiled warmly at someone, "Yeah... thanks Yui-chan,"
"Yui-chan?" Yui blushed.
"Yeah... somehow I trust you, you'll never betray me, right?"
Yui nodded.
"Then call me Kei, or Kei-chan,"
"I-is that...necessary?"
"Yes it is," then Kei got up, "come on, let's go back to Tokyo, I wanna visit mom right now,"
❀❤❖✙❖❤❀
Yui offered the basket of Azalea to Kei's mom's tomb and prayed. As she was praying, Kei started speaking, "Hey mom, sorry I couldn't make myself visit you.. I know I'm a jerk... by the way, this is my friend, Yui..."
Yui looked at him, he was smiling. A true, warm smile from his heart.
"She's my first friend did you know that? I bet you do cause you're probably watchng me.. I promise, I'll try to make friends from now and I'll cherish my very first friend... I promise you that,"
Yui could just smile. Kei trusted her, then maybe... she should trust him as well. She was happy and spoke, "Mrs. Inoo... your son is actually my first TRUE friend as well, and I'll take care of him and make sure he makes a lot of friends,"

It's almost their christmas vacation. Yui and Kei got really close. At first, their classmates were really amused with the development. They thought they were just dreaming but they weren't. Kei and Yui became the best of friends. Kei already has new friends now.
"Hey.. Kei-chan, why don't you confess to Yui already?" Daiki asked.
"C-confess?"
"You like her right?" Kota ruffled Kei's hair.
Kei blushed, "Y-yeah... but she might not like me... plus that... Miura guy from next class likes her as well... what if she likes him more than me,"
"What if what if what if? Just go man! I bet you have a better chance!" Yuya cheered him up.
"I agree, we'll help you," Hikaru added.
"Okay then..."
The next day, Kei asked Yui to meet him at the park where they watched the fireworks after the school festival. His four friends were watching him from a far making sure he will confess to her. Yui arrived in time, with a smile on her face, "Hey, sorry, am I late?"
"No no.. not at all,"
"What's wrong? You seem nervous," Yui worriedly asked then noticed the basket Kei was holding, "are we gonna have a picnik?"
"NO! Actually.. you can't eat what's inside this basket... here," Kei handed her the basket, "open it..."
"Okay then.." Yui took the basket and opened it, and a white Munchkin kitten was inside playing with its toy, "OMG! Kei! but... but... it's not even my birthday,"
"Go on, hold him,"
Yui carried the kitten in her hands and looked at the collar and saw something engraved on it, "Hm? 'Will... you.. be my.. gilfriend?'"
Kei bit his lip and crossed his fingers.
"Eh? Kei? Are you... asking me to be... your girlfriend?"
Kei just nervously nodded.
"Kei... I've been waiting for you to confess.. actually I'm planning that if you won't confess to me before Christmas.. I'll directly ask you already.." Yui smiled, "I will Kei," then she quickly gave him a peck, "I love you,"
"I love you too Yui.."
Fate. It is something we cannot go against with. For these two, this is how fate played with their lives. It might be the best way for them, there might be some twists and down, but still! They're happy in the end right?
