I can remember the first time my mother wore trousers (they may have been jeans) at home, some time in the 1980s. My father, who is considerably older than my mother, stormed around the house slamming doors and wouldn't speak to her for several days.

The story I heard was that in the 1970s, women in the Public Service in NSW who wore trousers to work were sent home to change...

... until one day all the women in the NSW Public Service came in in trousers/slacks. Management couldn't afford to have the office completely understaffed while they all went home, so the rule was quietly scrapped.

I don't think I've said this before, but I am in awe of what you're doing with this marvellous project :) You really are living your dream, it is wonderful :) I would much like to read the book when it is done!
