I do and my younger brother has a lot. What do you need to know?

My interest in Civil War history and recent visit to Gettysburg piqued my interest. What would it take to get involved in, say, target shooting with blackpowder firearms (probably a percussion pistol or some such)?

Some of the black powder guns that are sold now are a bit different from the ones used in the Civil War, but you can find models of them to buy and shoot. I'll send you some links this week -- a guy like you would be able to learn in an afternoon enough to get started, and there are many resources in this area for shooting and learning from others. My brother owns several of the modern blackpowder rifles in .50 caliber -- they are single shot, but if you hit it the paper target or tine can is not going to get back up. :)

Is it weird that I want to shoot blackpowder firearms but don't want to kill any animals doing so?

There are turkey shoot competitions (target shooting) just for black powder. it is not weird, I love to target shoot but have not shot an animal in more than 30 years, though I am teaching my son to hunt. I'll get a chance to target shoot my brother's .50 calibers over the thanksgiving holiday when I go to Ohio, I'll let you know how it is.
