Oh, man. It's been years since I've seen this episode, but I watched it over and over and I think maybe even recorded the audio onto a cassette so I could listen to it later. This story pretty much captured everything I loved about it and also everything I never even thought of when I was 12 or 13. It's just heartbreaking and lovely and perfect. ♥

So good. Your dialogue blends seamlessly with that from the episode, and the characterizations, particularly the frantic quality of Hawkeye's wit, were spot-on. This made a lot of sense and comes across as entirely believable.

And thank you so much for the happy ending for Hawkeye and BJ. :)

I love how you wrote both Carlye & Hawkeye here.

It's something more like wanderlust, which is something more like Hawkeye Pierce. This line is FTW!

I do have one minor quibble, though: I think there's an error in the dates. United States involvement in the Korean War began in 1950 and ran until the war ended in 1953, and so "many years" would not have passed if Carlye receives a Christmas card in 1954.

This would also make Hawkeye & Carlye much older than the ages of their characters in the show if they broke up in 1929 (thus making it over 20 years, not 10, since they had seen each other.)

Many years pass before she understands, but BEFORE that, in 1954 just after the war, she gets the postcard.

But yeah -- as with everything in MASH -- timelines are irrelevant. *g* I mean, the three year war went on for eleven years of show!

So glad you liked it, and thanks for the comments; I know, that 1929 business is shady. I think at one point I had it at 1939, but I changed it for reasons I can't at all remember. Esp. since in the original they break up just before war breaks out -- so it'd make sense for the WW2 timing... huh. Maybe I posted the wrong draft! *goes to investigate*
