The evening star is shining bright

Back in the old days it was normal for care packages to be sent to the countries soldiers and naval crew. A treat for them; something to make them smile as they were lonesome at sea or in the desert. Packages were sent without knowing who would be getting them, the senders simply marking them with whatever they felt like, the Captain, the youngest ( Read more... )

Subject: Gift package

Gabriel.

I wanted to contact you to thank you for your generosity. Almost like you're a mind reader with it. Bourbon is a favorite, the candy appreciated and I'd been looking for another good book to read. You've got good taste. You called it another favorite. Is it THE favorite?

I'll have to visit your shop when we're next planetside. To thank you.

Don't go for hairless cats. Look like damned chickens ready for cooking.

Leonard McCoy? ...the Leonard McCoy? Well aren't I just the luckiest man in all of New York City. I've heard about you. You're a national hero, after all.

I'm grinning now, I look sort of like an idiot.

But back to the point. I'm so glad you like the stuff. I had no idea what to put in there, so I just picked out what I'd like to receive if I was out in space away from my home. THE favourite? I honestly don't know, I like so much. Holmes is way up there, though, along with Tolkien's books.

Well you don't have to, but that would be nice. Don't really have too many exciting things here, though.

Hairless cats kind of freak me out.

Gabriel.

I'm no hero.

Holmes is a solid pick. The Adventure of the Three Gables is a particular favorite of mine.

What do you have?

Leonard.

Modesty becomes you, Dr.McCoy.

The Hound of the Baskervilles was the book that popped my Holmes cherry, so it'll always be dear to me. I like that one too, though.

Oh, you know. This and that. A lot of books, which is nice, because when I get them in, I can just put the ones I want for myself aside. And then I have a lot of watches and clocks, things that need fixing up and whatnot, because I have a gift for that sort of thing.
