Gregoire has asked lawmakers to let state universities increase tuition by up to 28 percent over the next two years to help offset deep budget cuts.WTH Gregoire? I understand that we are in a recession, but this is a ridiculous proposal. Allowing the universities to increase tuition by 14% each year for the next two years is obscene ( Read more... )

Yeah I think I have to agree with you for the most part. It's tough though. Part of the problem is that per our state constitution funding for K-12 can't be gutted in this kind of manner so higher education ends up getting screwed ( ... )

As always, I appreciate your opinion, it really helps me understand more of the topic. It helps that you aren't biased. You make a good point about balancing the budget, I wonder if that thought has crossed their minds.

The UW is close to $6500 per 3 quarters as it is. So glad I have only one more year left, but too many people I know have just started. :(

Ugh, this irritates me. As if students aren't making enough sacrifices in this economy, not being able to use what were once good degrees to have to get jobs.

Srsly. I do not regret getting my degree (for many reasons) but this is really going to turn off a bunch of people.

My favorite part of this...is the fact that I have obscene amounts of student loans from studying to become a teacher (and I'm gaining more now that I'm in grad school to get a higher ed degree in education). Even more awesome? I'm having a hard time paying back those student loans because they're aren't enough teaching jobs for people who aren't SPED, math or science...(and there will be even less next year)...

I love our system!

Its such an f'ed up system. We really need to support and promote good teachers. I am so proud of you for getting a master's degree.
