Amazingly I'm Moved to Write About This

It has been an incredibly long time since I've written on this blog, or any of my blogs, and of all things I'm coming out of my hidey hole to write about Miley Cyrus.  It's been written to death, but I've spent a lot of time thinking about this performance and really what I feel that people are missing as they criticize her 2013 VMA appearance.

When I saw the MVA video of Miley Cyrus, I was not shocked by her outfit, her twerking, etc. There is a wide variety of dances and dance moves out there, and while not "tame", I've seen wilder. Heck, some tangos are more sexually suggestive.

I didn't particularly follow her as Hannah Montana, so I'm not familiar with her Disney-molded image. I know she's been trying (for a few years) to break that image, so this isn't particularly surprising.

What did surprise me was the quality of her dancing. To me, it looked like she wasn't in full control of her body and her movements. The impression I got wasn't excessive sexuality, but more of a lack of rehearsal, lack of skill, or perhaps 3 too many drinks backstage.

It seems strange to me that a Disney-groomed pop-star would not know how to move on stage, or would not have choreographers who could work with her skill level (even post-Disney, she's got the money and connections to get the choreographers). So I don't know what went on there.

I can't stand either of those songs (get lucky or blurred lines). What MC did on the VMAs was highly distasteful. That girl needs some help.
