it was a “graphic” movie

i only realized last night, after watching Hannibal Rising just how graphic Silence wasn't. for how brutal and bloody a character Lecter is, neither film is gratuitously gory. both, i think, illustrate very well how the monster in the shadows is way scarier than the monster you can see.
i would recommend Hannibal Rising as long as you're okay with a story in which neither the protagonist nor the antagonists are good guys.
(i still haven't seen Manhunter, Red Dragon, or Hannibal)

Hannibal was terrible, but the first two are pretty good. Manhuter = Red Dragon, btw.

i'd heard Hannibal was awful. that's why i didn't see it (or Red Dragon; i assumed it was also awful). i was aware of Manhunter & Red Dragon being the same story, but i'm always interested in seeing how two storytellers spin the same yarn. in fact, i'm lined up to borrow some or all of the novels fairly soon.
